Nightlife in Satun

Nightlife in Satun

Where to go, what to expect, and how to stay safe after dark

Satun is a quiet, predominantly Muslim province in southern Thailand near the Malaysian border. Nightlife is very limited compared to other Thai destinations — alcohol is available but not prominently so, reflecting the local Muslim culture. The town of Satun has a few restaurants and cafés that stay open in the evening. The real reason to be in Satun Province is the islands — Koh Lipe has a more developed beach bar scene for travelers. In Satun town itself, evening activities center on the night market, waterfront strolling, and tea shops.

Satun town has very few bars. Some restaurants serve beer. The night market and waterfront promenade are the main evening social venues. Tea and coffee shops provide the real social gathering points. On Koh Lipe, beach bars serve cocktails and beer in a more typical Thai island atmosphere.
